Every great company has a beginning—and GreenLeaf Houston’s starts in one of the toughest environments on earth.

Long before he was helping homeowners enjoy their backyards across Houston, founder Larry King was working thousands of miles away in the deserts of the Middle East, supporting pest control operations for American military bases during wartime. In extreme heat, blowing sand, and constant insect pressure, his role went far beyond eliminating pests—it was about protecting the health and safety of the men and women serving our country.

That experience shaped everything that came next.
Larry learned early on that pest control isn’t just about spraying—it’s about understanding environments, solving problems, and protecting people.

When he returned to Texas, he brought that mindset with him. He helped pioneer mosquito control in the Houston market as part of one of the region’s first large-scale operations, eventually playing a key role in growing it into one of the largest mosquito control franchises in the country.

But what mattered most wasn’t the growth—it was the experience.

Over the years, Larry worked on thousands of properties across Houston, gaining a deep, practical understanding of what works in the Gulf Coast’s challenging climate—and what doesn’t. From dense landscaping to high humidity and year-round mosquito breeding, he learned how to solve problems in real-world conditions.

Word spread.

Homeowners in neighborhoods like River Oaks, Tanglewood, and beyond began calling Larry when they wanted things done right. Whether it was protecting their landscapes or finally making their yards usable again, he became known as the person you call when you don’t want to deal with the same problem twice.

But over time, Larry saw an opportunity to do things differently.

He believed there was a better way than the one-size-fits-all franchise model—a way built on local expertise, customized solutions, and real relationships with customers.

That belief became GreenLeaf Houston.

Today, GreenLeaf is proudly family-owned and operated. Larry’s children are actively involved in the business, often working in the field, meeting customers, and making sure every job is done right. Behind the scenes, his wife helps guide the business, keeping the team focused and moving forward.

Together with a dedicated team, they share the same goal: delivering honest service and real results for Houston homeowners.

What started with mosquito control has grown into a full range of services—from lawn fertilization and plant health care to pest control and outdoor lighting—all designed to help homeowners fully enjoy their outdoor spaces.
